About The Founder

I’m Chris Walsh, the founder of The Psych Update. I am not a psychologist. I am a data scientist. My passion lies in taking complex and messy things and making them easy for others to use. I sincerely believe that the world needs cleaner, clearer information flows. The Psych Update was born out of a unique intersection of my personal life, where I have a front-row seat to the challenges faced by mental health professionals – thanks to my wife, who works in mental health, and my professional expertise in data science, analytics, and artificial intelligence.

Career

Having led a data science team that supports the analytical needs of large retailers across Canada, I have significant experience in deciphering complex data, generating comprehensible insights and automating processes. My background as a partner at an analytical firm based in Toronto and in mechatronics engineering has instilled in me a desire to use the latest technology and best data interpretation techniques to support the work of others.

The Idea Behind The Psych Update

The Psych Update sprung from watching my wife, a dedicated mental health care worker, strive to stay current with the ongoing mental health research. In particular, the overwhelming volume of research and the fact that only a small portion of it pertained to her specific area of work made it difficult for her to meaningfully engage with the research. The idea of The Psych Update crystallized as a tool to aid mental health professionals in staying updated with the research that matters to their specific practice, fretting less about scouring through endless research articles to find the few that matter to them.

Outside The Server Room

When not wrestling with data or diving into the latest research, I love spending time outdoors, running, rock climbing, and even making maple syrup! In truth, I love to spend as much time as possible engaging with and understanding the world around me.

I’m excited about the positive impact The Psych Update can have on your practice by cutting down time spent sifting through research and maximizing time spent engaging with it.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope we can make your life easier and your practice more informed!

Best,
Chris Walsh,
